NIHCS | Father Capodanno and Sainthood

Father Vincent Capodanno, fondly known as the Grunt Padre, was a Maryknoll Priest who was a military chaplain during the Vietnam War. He is being proposed for Sainthood. We will explore his life and a miracle being investigated at the next meeting of Nativity Italian Heritage and Cultural Society.

Father Capodanno was wounded on two different occasions during the war, then killed in 1967 while trying to rescue a wounded soldier. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The frigate USS Capodanno was named for him, the first ship in the U-S fleet to receive a Papal blessing.

Our program speakers will be Mary Preece, vice-postulator of Father Capodanno’s Cause for Canonization and George Phillips, former chairman of the board of the Capodanno Guild.

A social hour will follow with snacks, wine and beverages. Please bring dessert, appetizer or wine to share, if you can.
