Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Our Nation’s patronal feast, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is usually December 8th. This year it falls on the 2nd Sunday of Advent and so it is celebrated on Monday, December 9th. The Obligation to attend Mass that day is lifted.
The Immaculate Conception celebrates Mary’s conception free from original sin in the womb of her mother, St. Anne.
