Myanna is 8 years old and she had open heart surgery for two undetected Congenital Heart Defects at 5 months old and tethered spinal cord release surgery at 5 years old. She knows how scary hospitals can be. She wishes to bring smiles to people’s faces. MyannasHeart donates tote bags to children at INOVA Children’s Hospital after heart surgery. The heart totes are filled with blankets, stuffed, toys, crafts, puzzles, gifts books, socks, and a customized t-shirt designed by Myanna.
Myanna’s Heart Totes is conducting their 2nd shoe fundraiser to raise funds to purchase gifts that will be delivered to comfort children after open heart surgery due to congenital heart defects.
When: May 25 – June 9
Where: Nativity Catholic Church
How it works: Please bring us new or gently worn shoes and put in boxes that will be in the back of church. Myanna’s Heart Totes will earn funds based upon the total weight of the pairs of shoes collected. Funds2Orgs will then issue a check for collecting the shoes. Every dollar goes back into the charity and benefits the children and also adults after heart surgery. Last year Myanna’s shoe drive brought in over 3,000 pairs of shoes.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited. Proceeds from the sales of the shoes collected in shoe drive fundraisers are used to feed, clothe and house their families.
Myanna is a 8 year old girl who had open heart surgery at 5 months old and tethered spinal cord release surgery at 5 years old. Myanna realized how scary and sad hospitals can be. She wanted to make staying in the hospital a happier experience for all the children there and bring a smile to their faces. With her mother’s help, they started Myanna’s Heart Totes. Myanna had a dream to bring children fleece blankets, a custom t-shirt, toys, books, stuffed animal horses, socks, puzzles, gifts, crafts, bibs and hats for the babies. The items are placed in a sturdy tote that can be used to go to and from the hospital. This past year Myanna delivered and mailed out over 120 Heart Tote bags. The organization has branched out and now we send Myanna’s love to children and adults all over the world.
“Myanna was born a preemie who struggled from the day she was born so she has always been a fighter. She has been diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, OCD, anxiety disorder, feeding disorders, sensory processing disorder, two congenital heart defects, spina bifida occulta and is the strongest and most resilient little girl I know. She loves everyone; she perseveres under any circumstance and she is an inspiration to many. She is my hero and I hope she inspires you. Thank you for helping Myanna and her dream.” Sheri Kempton
