Nativity Italian Heritage and Cultural Society Presents:
Italian-American Influence on Architecture
and Art at the US Capitol
The US Capitol is home to more than 700 frescoes, paintings, sculptures and architectural treasures that amaze and inspire more than 2.4 million visitors each year. Italian-Americans contributed some of the most notable and visible works among the Capitol’s collections.
Our guest speaker will be member Tom Fontana. Tom retired in 2018 from the Office of the Architect of the Capitol after a 30 year career as a Communications and Public Affairs Professional. He first served at the Capitol as Communications Officer for the $600 million Capitol Visitor Center construction. He then worked for 10 years as its Director of Communications and Congressional Relations. In his time at the Capitol, he led more than 4,000 tours and site walks and provided hundreds of presentations to the Congressional community, the media, and the public. He’ll highlight many Italian-American influences as he gives us a virtual tour of key public spaces along the Capitol tour route.
Please join us Thursday, May 27, 7 pm. A Zoom link will be sent to members later this month. Feel free to share it with friends. If you’re not a member and would like to participate, email togolf@aol.com. All are welcome to our virtual events this year.
