So Others Might Eat | SOME
SOME exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation’s capital by meeting the immediate daily needs of the people they serve with food, clothing, and health care. Their website lists a dozen ways to volunteer, including advocacy, professional services, elderly services, tutoring/ mentoring youth and adults, and food service and preparation. A group from Nativity provides lunch to 300+ people on the first Thursday of the month—volunteers meet in the church parking lot at 9:00 am and carpool to SOME at 7th and O Street, in the District. We set up, prepare and serve lunch and provide bagged lunches to go for the patrons. We return to the church parking lot by 2:00 pm. Volunteers are always welcome and we are in need of families or groups to prepare bagged lunches.
