As parents, you are the primary educators of your children. We aim to complement your responsibility as Christian parents to teach and raise your children in the faith. We want to provide support and encouragement as you seek to fulfill this important responsibility. One way we do that is with our Religious Education program. The mission of the Nativity’s Religious Education Program is to proclaim Christ’s message and help students apply it to their lives to foster community, prayer, worship, and the desire to serve the Lord.
“Catholic education refers to the totality of the Church’s efforts to make disciples, to help all believe that Jesus is the Son of God so that believing they might have life in his name, and to educate and instruct them in this life, in order to build up the body of Christ.” (CF. CCC 4)
“An integral part of Catholic Education is catechesis. “Catechesis is an education in the faith of children, young people, and adults which includes especially the teaching of Christian doctrine imparted, generally speaking, in an organic and systematic way, with a view to initiating the hearers into the fullness of the Christian life.” (CCC 5)
First Holy Communion is a 2 year required program that begins in the 1st grade. Children are normally prepared to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) and Holy Communion during 2nd grade.
Confirmation is a 2 year required program that begins in the 7th grade. Children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation during the spring of the 8th grade year.
We require that children complete this preparation by attending Nativity Catholic School or our Religious Education Program.
