Nativity Village at Bas Fossé

In 2022 we began development of our 13th village project, Nativity Village at Bas Fossé, with another 75 new homes, along with water, sanitation, education, healthcare and jobs.  We do this out of love and we do it one family at a time.  We do it with your help, specially during our annual Operation Starfish Weekend.

Bas Fossé is a community of about 1,500 people, living in severe poverty.  Those who can grow crops or catch fish earn less than $1 per day.  The nearest health care is 9 miles away.  There are 2 primary schools nearby.  Housing is mud and stick huts with no toilets or access to clean drinking water.

    • Located near Limonade, about 17 km from Cap-Haitien
    • Phase I includes 75 new homes with indoor toilets and solar power
    • 2 water wells will be dug and a distribution system installed
    • A community center will be built and solar street lighting installed

UPDATE: November 2024—A new community center has been completed in Nativity Village at Bas Fossé.  This center will provide church services, vocational training, and community meeting space for the residents of this 13th Nativity Village project.  Two schools and nearly 50 new homes have also been completed. Water wells have been completed and a treatment system is under construction.  Just a few more homes remain to be built.  Despite the difficult conditions in Haiti, Food For The Poor and Operation Starfish continue to make a difference, one family at a time.
