Grotto Vandalism
January 25, 2022

My dear parishioners,

This morning we found vandalism on the Nativity campus at the grotto that apparently occurred last night.  I am so saddened by this act of disrespect and destruction of property.  The statues damaged are images of the Blessed Mother and the children she appeared to at Fatima.  The police were notified and came out to document the vandalism and begin their investigation.  Unfortunately, the statues damaged are not repairable.  The statues will be removed and we will work to replace them.

The Grotto is a place of prayer, peace, and healing.  We pray for the person or persons who desecrated this sacred space and for peace in our world and the end of violence.

I am attaching a picture I took at the grotto recently after the last major snowstorm on Monday, January 3rd, the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus.  The grotto was covered in freshly fallen snow, untouched, pure, unblemished with gentle warm light glistening in the twilight of day.  May this be a cherished image of healing and peace on this day of some darkness for us.

Let us be people of peace who value and respect one another.

Mary, Mother of the Nativity… pray for us.

Blessings,
Fr. Bob
Pastor
