Laudato Si’ | May 16-24

The Pope has declared a week long celebration of the 5th anniversary of Laudato Si’ from May 16-24.  This is a very important time period for Creation Care.

As we enter into the holiest of days, we offer this month’s reflection and prayers for all those impacted by the coronavirus. We remember in particular those who have contracted COVID-19, those who have died, and the loved ones who are left behind. We hold in prayer those on the front lines, our tireless nurses, doctors, all health care personnel, and all those who have continued to stock our groceries, keep our streets clean, and enabled our cities to still run smoothly. Finally, we offer this to the most vulnerable in our world, particularly those in the Global South who don’t have the privilege to physically isolate and have to risk getting coronavirus in order to survive.

Statement from Bishop Burbidge

Laudato Si' Week

Given our current realities of the coronavirus epidemic, we have now shifted the theme of Laudato Si’ Week to “Everything is connected” to stress our interconnectedness as a global community. We will build a web of solidarity by bringing Laudato Si’ to life through prayer, and reflection through an online conference and a Global Day of Prayer on May 24. Join us for these special events as we recommit to our values or ecological and social justice as a global family.

St. Francis of Assisi Eco Summit 2020

As we celebrate the fifth anniversary of the promulgation of Pope Francis’s encyclical letter, Laudato Sí, we look not only to the document and the past, but also forward to see where we are invited to go in embracing the church’s teachings on creation and integral ecology. This presentation at St. Francis of Assisi in Triangle, VA will pay particular attention to the ways we, as a Franciscan community, can draw from our rich resources in living Laudato Sí now and in the years to come.

Native Planting

We are happy to share that the native plants (not just the daffodils and hyacinths and lilies) are beginning to bloom.  Signs are lovingly made by Nativity Catholic School Students.
