Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It’s a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter.
The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery.
The season of Easter is the most important of all liturgical times, which Catholics celebrate as the Lord’s resurrection from the dead, culminating in his Ascension to the Father and sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church at Pentecost. —Source: USCCB

Nativity Lent Podcast
Journey with The Nativity Podcast this Lent as we enter deeper into the liturgical season by inviting guests to have roundtable discussions on living Lent.
ABSTINENCE (no meat) | Ash Wednesday is a day of penance observed by both fasting and abstinence from meat. Catholics over 14 years of age is bound to observe the law of abstinence (no meat). Abstinence is to be observed on all Fridays within the season of Lent and on Ash Wednesday.
FASTING | On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday everyone over 18 and up to the beginning of their 60th year is also bound to observe the law of fast. On these two days, only one full meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs; but together they should not equal another full meal.
Like other penitential days, Ash Wednesday begins and ends at midnight. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, therefore, are the only days of both fast and abstinence.

Good Friday Collection | Every year on Good Friday, a collection is taken up in Catholic Churches to support the work of the Franciscans working in the Holy Land. Christians there rely heavily on the help that comes to them from this worldwide collection. The Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land have the unique responsibility to care for the Holy Places as well for the “Living Stones,” the Christians living there. It is vital that we support Christians living in the Holy Land, in order to maintain a Christian presence in the very land made holy by the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus. Donate Online.
