Lord, Teach Me to Pray

Lord, Teach Me to Pray is a three-part prayer series, rooted in Ignatian spirituality and designed to help women and men learn how to pray.  The three parts are taken in succession.  Each part is a prerequisite for the next part.

“…to know more clearly God’s Incarnate Word in order to adhere to Him more willingly because of His incredible goodness toward me.” (St. Ignatius of Loyola)

Praying the Christian Virtues | Part 1

This is a 12-week program that introduces Ignatian prayer and spirituality in the way that St. Ignatius himself introduced people; i.e., by structuring their initial prayer experience around the Christian Virtues—which Saint Ignatius used to re-enforce each participants’ prayer life.  Sessions are conducted in a small group experience with two trained facilitators.

Each group will meet for one to two hours, once a week for prayer, faith sharing and introduction to the methods of Ignatian prayer. Everyone will receive Scriptures on the virtues to use in prayerful reading daily at home for 15 minutes of private prayer.

The following are the virtues covered.

Session 1 Christian Faith
Session 2 Christian Hope
Session 3 Christian Love
Session 4 Christian Humility
Session 5 Christian Poverty
Session 6 Christian Chastity
Session 7 Christian Obedience
Session 8 Christian Patience
Session 9 Christian Courage
Session 10 Christian Perseverance
Session 11 Christian Friendship
Session 12 Christian Wisdom

Those participating in Part 1 may, if they choose, continue in the Fall of 2019 with Part II to Lord Teach Me To Pray, in which you will gain experience of praying the full Ignatian exercises written by St. Ignatius of Loyola.
