Job Description

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Nativity Catholic Church is seeking a Coordinator of Youth Ministry who will work collaboratively with the Director of Youth Ministry to empower young people to live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Supervised by the Director of Youth Ministry, the Coordinator will work closely with families, other ministry directors, and parish groups to engage the youth of Nativity in living out their Catholic faith. With an emphasis on middle school ministry, the Coordinator role involves planning, executing, and overseeing various Youth Ministry programs as assigned.

Responsibilities

    • Facilitate middle school Edge program and ongoing fellowship opportunities for youth in grades 6-8
    • Support, form, and expand the Core Team of adult volunteers and high school leaders who assist with middle school Youth Ministry
    • Coordinate a week-long service/learning summer camp for middle schoolers
    • Collaborate with other parish groups (Nativity School, Religious Education Department, etc.) to provide retreat opportunities for young people, including the 8th grade retreat and the Confirmation retreats
    • Work collaboratively with the Director (including the Director of Social Media to maintain brand consistency) to manage communication streams for the ministries – Flocknote (email/texting platform), Instagram, parish website, bulletin updates, etc.
    • Support the Director with large-scale programs for youth, such as parish Soup Suppers, WorkCamp, retreats, etc.
    • Build community with other youth workers in the Diocese by regularly attending Diocesan trainings, in-services, and deanery meetings
    • Maintain accurate records of participating youth and collaborate with parish Child Protection liaison to ensure all volunteers are compliant
    • Serve as a liaison for other parish groups that engage youth in grades 6-8 (Nativity School, Religious Education Department, CYO Sports, Theater Ministry, Scouts, etc.)
    • May be required to perform other duties as assigned within the broad scope of Youth Ministry

Skills and Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated experience in parish ministry or related field
    • Effective time management to complete multiple projects concurrently
    • Passion for evangelization of young people and ability to witness to the joy of living out the Catholic faith
    • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively on a team, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Experience in public speaking and willingness to improve ability to speak with confidence and clarity
    • Adaptability and openness to learning new skills
    • Proficiency in communication systems, including Google Sheets, Google Docs, Flocknote, and Canva
    • Ability to lift 50lbs for setup and cleanup of events as needed

Coordinator of Young Adult & Family Ministries

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
The Coordinator position is supervised by the Director of Young Adult, Family, & Social Actions Ministries, with an emphasis on supporting Young Adult Ministry. Join a team that is willing to creatively try new ways to engage Millennial and Gen-Z Catholics, including those with young children and those who are single.

In-Person Ministry Support

    • The Coordinator will work on a team with the Director and other volunteer leaders. They will work independently to oversee designated programs, with an emphasis on Young Adult Ministry, and will work in a supportive role for other programs. These responsibilities include the following:
      • Young Adult: Small group program, service opportunities with Catholic Charities, supporting Diocesan Young Adult gatherings, identifying new events that would meet the needs of young adults in our community.
      • Family: support Family Ministry gatherings, quarterly parish-wide family events, and Childcare Ministry

Planning and Communications

    • Work collaboratively with the Directors (including the Director of Social Media to maintain brand consistency) to manage all communication streams for the ministries – Flocknote (email/texting platform), Instagram, parish website, bulletin updates, etc.
    • Independently plan and prepare for upcoming ministry gatherings

Nativity Childcare Coordinator

Nativity Catholic Church has developed a Childcare Ministry to support designated ministry gatherings for parents with young children. Childcare is for children ages 1-12 and is offered for events where the parents remain in the building. The Coordinator collaborates with the Director of Family Ministry and the Coordinator of Marriage Enrichment Ministry to create a loving and safe environment for the children. The Coordinator is foremost someone who loves the Catholic faith and is eager to serve the community at the parish by providing childcare. The Coordinator must be comfortable overseeing the childcare ministry, recruiting, training, and scheduling childcare providers for events and programs. The Coordinator should thrive in a small team environment and be a self-starter with outstanding organizational, administration, and recruiting abilities.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of Parish Childcare Coordinator

    • Ensure that all childcare providers are VIRTUS compliant. Communicate with parish VIRTUS liaison.
    • Help develop and implement best practices for childcare ministry, including safety regulations that align with the parish and the school.
    • Create engaging childcare activities for the children with age and developmentally appropriate play-based activities. This will allow the children to see, hear, and feel Jesus’s love.
    • Oversee a team of childcare providers and recruit new providers as needed to ensure we can staff the parish’s childcare needs.
    • Ensure that each event/program is staffed with the appropriate number of childcare leaders for the proper adult-to-child ratios. Send out a monthly email to providers and ask who would like to work which events.
    • For larger parish events, ensure that childcare providers maintain accurate attendance and sign-in and sign-out logs, that children wear a sticker name tag on their backs, and that water bottles are labeled.
    • Track hours worked for childcare providers (to include 30 minutes before each shift for set up and 30 minutes after for cleanup) and submit to Nativity’s Business Manager for payment.
    • Conduct yearly training of providers as well as onboarding and training for new providers.
    • Have a cleaning schedule for the deep cleaning of toys owned by the Childcare Ministry.
    • Connect with the Director of the Family Ministry, Marriage Enrichment Ministry, Walking with Purpose, etc., for upcoming parish events when childcare is needed.

Qualifications

    • Experience with childcare programs and care preferred.
    • Must pass a background check, complete all VIRTUS compliance training by the Diocese of Arlington, and receive and maintain First Aid & CPR certification.
    • Excellent communication skills, including pastoral and interpersonal communications.
    • Collaborative team player.
    • Exceptional skills in administration and organization.
    • Flexibility to work or do trainings at nights and weekends at the parish.
    • Childcare Ministry planning is primarily done remotely; the Coordinator will have a parish email address.

Payment

    • The Childcare Coordinator receives a quarterly stipend of $500 for their ongoing oversight of the Childcare Ministry.
    • The Coordinator can also work as a childcare provider and receive the usual $15/hour rate for any events they work.
