In this month, Nativity celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction of the parish’s Spiritual Formation Center. In the beginning, the building housed the religious education program, which had formerly been held in the church, with movable chairs, tables, and partitions. Under these conditions, the entire arrangement had to be taken down each week after the final CCD class of the week, and the chairs placed again as they would be for the next day’s Mass. The new building gave the religious education program a permanent home. Of great importance, this new building made it possible to remodel the church and install permanent pews and sanctuary. Eventually, the Nativity School was housed in this building as well, beginning in 1996. In this photo, Pastor Father Sal Ciullo and the building committee gather to conduct the groundbreaking. To the left is Sister Donatella Merulla, who had just arrived as director of religious education the preceding September.
