Regarding Recent CDC Guideline Changes

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of Bishop Burbidge, we are aware that on Thursday, May 13, 2021, the CDC released advised guidelines on mask-wearing.  The CDC said: “If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you can resume activities without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal or territorial laws, incl. local business and workplace guidance.”

In response to this, the Governor Northam’s office said, “We are reviewing the new mask and distancing recommendations and will update our guidance accordingly.”

Like you, we are hopeful that the pandemic is ending, and that all of the protocols will soon be lifted.

Until the Commonwealth changes its requirements, Virginia’s “Permanent COVID-19 Standard” for employers remains in effect.  That Standard still requires employees and parishioners to maintain social distancing and to wear masks (exceptions being noted).  In our churches, social distancing and masks are still expected. Capacity remains limited by the social distancing parameters.

The Bishop asks everyone to be hopeful and patient, to pray for the end of the pandemic, and above all be charitable to each other because the situation is fluctuating.

Please be assured of my continued prayers for you.

Sincerely in Christ,
Fr. Bob
