Creation Care Ministry Plants Second St. Kateri Habitat Garden

On Sunday, Sept 27th, in honor of the Season of Creation, the Creation Care Ministry planted a second St. Kateri habitat garden in the back parking lot near the St. Fiacre Food Garden. Nine ministry members and additional volunteers planted 45 native plants in one of the parking lot islands to help bring pollinators to the food garden and to enhance habitat for birds, bees, butterflies and other of God’s creatures. They planted natives such as Maryland Golden Aster, Common Dittany, Carolina Petunia, Wild Geranium, Blue-stem Goldenrod and more. Native plants are those that have evolved alongside the native wildlife and require little water and no fertilizer or soil amendments. While these plants may have a more natural, less cultivated look, they help to support local food webs and are therefore essential to the survival of our world. Additional plants were added to the St. Kateri garden in the front parking lot and in the school yard.

With a focus on God and the Catholic faith, the Saint Kateri Habitat Program provides living, sacred spaces for people to engage directly in the care of God’s creation at home and in their communities. By restoring habitats with reverence and gratitude for our Creator, the program draws people closer to God and his Church while protecting the integrity of creation as God has planned.
