Volunteer F.A.Q.
What will my volunteer role be like? For VBC, you will be assigned to one of the following teams: music, Bible stories, art, science, outdoors, shepherd, or daycare. You will have the opportunity to list your preference on your registration form. We try to accommodate your first or second preference, but ultimately you will be placed wherever you are most needed.
For COTE, you will be assigned to accompany a small group of teens throughout the week. Adults are not merely supervising, but are actively involved in the activities and formation with the campers. Our teen and adult volunteers will guide our campers through the various service activities, reflections, and games throughout the week.
Can I volunteer for both VBC and COTE? Yes! Many teens and adults choose to volunteer for both programs.
How old do I need to be to volunteer for the camps? We go by your grade during the 2024-2025 school year (not the the grade you’re going into). So 8th and 9th graders during SY 24-25 can volunteer for VBC and 10th-12th graders during SY 24-25 can volunteer for both VBC & COTE. All adults who are 18+ (not inlcuding 2025 high school graduates) are welcome to volunteer for both programs and need to be compliant with the child protection office.
My 5th-7th graders are too old for VBC but too young to volunteer. Do you have any roles for them?
Yes! Each summer, we take a few 5th-7th graders to assist as helpers for our childcare program (infants – pre-k). If your child would like to volunteer in this capacity, please email our team.
Can I still volunteer if I can’t make the training day? What if I need to miss a day of camp? We need to maintain a certain ratio of adults to children for child protection purposes. It is challenging for both adults and teens to miss a day, especially our training day. Before registering, please discuss your schedule availability with our team. We will decide together if it’s a good time for you to volunteer.
What should I wear? Volunteers will receive a camp tee at our Monday training day that they should wear the rest of the week. Volunteers should wear long shorts (must be 3 inches above the knee or longer), capris, or pants. Remember to dress comfortably – you will be on your feet most of the day!
For VBC, when will I be notified of my assignment? Typically, you will receive your placement during our Monday training day.
Do I need to be compliant with the Office for the Protection of Children and Young People (OPCYP)?
If you are 18 or older, you need to become compliant. The one exception is for 18 year olds who just graduated high school in 2025. If you just graduated, please register to volunteer as a teen, not an adult.
